Ever try to make your own Tomato Soup? After reading the label on my favorite tomato soup, I decided to test out other organic options. Nothing ever hit the mark. I’ve cooked it before on the stove and never really been happy with the results. Finally tried it in the crock pot and it came out fabulous! I served it alongside grilled cheese sandwiches for a simple dinner one night, then added barley to it to make it into a lunch.
Ingredients
- 1 large Onion chopped.
- 1 stick of butter
- 28 oz Can of Whole Tomatoes
- 1/2 Cup White Wine I used Sauvingnon Blanc
- 1 Tbl Sugar
- 1 Tsp Dried Tarragon
- Sea Salt
- Sour Cream for serving
Instructions
- In a large skillet, melt the butter on medium heat. Add onion and cook for about 15 minutes until softened. Stir often. (Or, set slow cooker to saute and complete this task in the main cooker.)
- Add tomatoes (do not drain), wine, sugar and tarragon into the crock pot. Add onion and butter. Cover and cook on Low for 5 hours.
- Puree using an Immersion Blender
- or in a blender in batches. Season with salt. Serve with cold sour cream.

I am so excited to try your soup. I just found your blog a bit ago. I, too have been looking for alternatives to the can. I have tried so many different organic brands, but many just seem not quite right. This sounds easy and delicious!
Great idea! We raided the farmer's market for enough tomatoes to make pasta and pizza sauces to last us through winter. There were some tomatoes that I just skinned and popped into the freezer. My kids have been whining for tomato soup, but we can't do the canned stuff any more. This weekend, some of the tomatoes in the freezer might just have to turn into your delicious soup.
I love tomato soup, and I love using my crock pot. This looks like a delcious and easy recipe to try.
Love this idea! I'm pinning it and will try it soon!

I would never have thought to make something like tomato soup in the slow cooker, but this sounds really tasty! I'm hosting a weekly blog carnival specifically for soups, stocks and chowders, every Sunday! I would love it if you would come over and post this recipe. Here's a link with more information:

Would a Moscato wine work okay? Planning on making this tonight, my tummy is already rumbling!
I think so…would love to hear if you tried it.
Amazing recipe! We will never go back to canned tomato soup again! Have you ever tried fresh tomatoes in place of the canned? I want to try it but am nervous it won’t come out the same texture.
Amazing! made this today– I used dried basil from my garden instead of the Tarragon. Added a splash of half&half because I don’t have any sour cream on hand… this is delish! thanks so much– I will never buy canned soup again.
