The cold has arrived in Boston. I don’t mind the chill in the air, but I don’t like what it does to my skin. I know the dry air has arrived when my the skin on my hands start to crack. Time to break out some of my favorite winter skin regimens.

Coconut Oil
I use this all the time for my hands. As soon as my knuckles start to dry out I slater this on a few times a day.  I keep it in a little tin and stash them in my bags and all over the house. It’s the only thing that doesn’t burn my sensitive skin once it’s already in damaged mode.

Sunscreen
Yes, you should be wearing sunscreen year round. You and the kids. Plan ahead for skiing, the sun is even stronger when it’s bouncing off the snow.  I recently tried out Coola Sunscreen line and love it. It’s an organic, mineral based sunscreen line. The sunscreen rubs in really well so you don’t get that white finish that most mineral based products give you. If I’m spending a lot of time outside, I wear the Matte Finish Tinted Sunscreen. The kids get the unscented SPF 50 moisturizer. I had a little trouble getting the pump to work the first time, but then it went on smoothly.

Lotions
I really like the kids Dolphin Organics Fragrance Free lotion. If I don’t have coconut oil on hand, this is my favorite option. Plus I like to use this on the kids after their bath when their skin feels dry.

On my list to try this winter is some MadeOn hard lotion bars. I have read wonderful things about them online from some of my favorite bloggers and I think this is the season I’ll pick up a bar to test for myself.

DIY Masks/Scrubs
This time of year it’s really important to scrub off the buildup of excess skin. I find making my own sugar scrub to be an easy way to enter the world of DIY beauty products. I have a Pinterest Board full of DIY Beauty Projects to keep your skin healthy and glowing.

What is your favorite winter skincare treatment?
